Profile Information

Your organization
Countryside Conservancy Farmers' Market
Briefly describe your organization's products/services and the size of operations.
The Countryside Farmers' Market is a unique, producers-only year round farmers' market established and managed by the Countryside Conservancy (CC). Our markets are also unique in that we are situated in the remarkable Howe Meadow in Peninsula, nestled in the middle of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and in the winter we can be found indoors at Old Trail School, also within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park .

What attracts you to the concept of zero waste?
We are currently working on a project todivert 90-100% of the farmers' market waste by 2012.
What is your organization doing to eliminate waste?
Same as above and also to use as a resource and networking opportunity for our project.
What motivated you to join ZeroWasteNEO.org?
Network with others
What do you need to learn to be able to take action towards Zero Waste?
Loaded question - I am currently working through the challenges of transporting our recyclables. We would prefer not to transport them but are still exploring partnering with another business or getting the park to enlist in a stronger recycling program.
Please describe your organization's waste reduction goals (i.e. zero waste by 2019).
Our project has 2 phases - consumers at the market is phase 1 for 2011 season - to divert 90-100% of the customers waste at our market educating the public on proper sorting using our waste not stations, info booth with games & tools for composting, demos on shopping & cooking wisely, blogs articles, etc. Then the 2nd Phase is to do the same 90-100% diversion with our vendors by 2012 we will not longer allow use of plastic bags at any of the booths, all paper will be compostable and we will have ways to divert left over foods vendors can;t take home or back to here farms.
If your organization has set a zero waste goal, how do you plan to reach that goal?
I think I clarified above if not please do not hesitate to contact me personally.
