North Carolina bans plastic bottles from state landfills



Sept. 30 -- A North Carolina law goes into effect Oct. 1 banning plastic bottles from state landfills.

The law also dictates oil filters and wooden pallets must be kept out of landfills.



The state already bans materials such as scrap rubber and aluminum cans from the solid waste stream.

Anaerobic manure digester to power 500 homes in Wash.




Sept. 22 -- A new anaerobic manure digester in Skagit County, Wash., is expected to produce enough electricity to meet the needs of 500 homes.

The digester project in Rexville is being developed by Farm Power, a renewable energy company that is providing the power through Puget Sound Energy´s Green Power Program.
