Bound carpet books are essential to the interior design specification process, are abundant in the industry, and are not recyclable in their current state. Rematerializing these items into two separate feed streams (cardboard and carpet) that can be recycled is a process that ZeroLandfill manages. Since 2006, an estimated 2,500 carpet books have been deconstructed and repurposed as recyclable materials. This is a band aid solution. Innovation opportunity? Redesign the carpet book or collaboratively reform the way flooring products are generated and evaluated by specifiers.
